Library

Millumin stores all of the medias in the Library. They can also be managed in the Quick-Find popup as well as in the Media Editor.

There are many kinds of media; to get an exhaustive description of each, please refer to the dedicated article : Medias

Manage Medias

Files from your computer can be dragged-and-dropped into the library to be imposted as a new media source.
Then those media can be dragged from the library to a layer to be displayed in a canvas. If a file is directly dragged-and-dropped onto a layer, it will be automatically imported in the library.

To show more information about media, you can click on the button at the bottom-right corner of the library. The medias will become bigger and information such as resolution and duration will be displayed :

Also, the selected media in the library can be previewed by clicking on the i button. A little player will popup above the library with information on the side such as video codec, resolution, duration, and media path :

Medias in the library can be right-clicked to open a menu with more actions :

  • Rename if it is allowed
  • Relink ... with another file of the computer
  • Swap every occurence of a source with a new one in your project
  • Reload if the file changed
  • Show in Finder if it is a file
  • Create Timeline from the selected media with the corresponding duration and size.
  • Remove from the project

Please note that if a media cannot be found any more, a red cross will appear in the library to notify you about this issue :

Lastly, it is possible to filter the library via the search-field at the top. Or click the drop-down icon to filter by type :

Groups & Folders

Groups can be added to the library to help to arrange the medias. Click on the + button to do so :

The group can be renamed of course. Drag-and-drop some medias inside a group to organize them :

Millumin also supports Finder Folder : you can drag and drop a directory from your filesystem and the library will import every sources and subfolders contained while maintaining the original hierarchy. Every changes made in Finder will be automatically updated in Millumin to keep everything synchronized.

You can also import a Finder Folder at the beginning of your project then convert it to a static Group later in the process. You can do so by right-clicking on it and select Convert to Group.

When dragging a folder in the library, you need to choose if you want to import this folder as a group or a Finder Folder :

Quick-Find

To edit your project faster and more easily, you can use this fast research tool. Just like you would with Spotlight in macOS, open the Quick-Find from anywhere in Millumin’s interface by pressing: CMD+ENTER.

From there, you'll be able to use various filtering and sorting methods to find the right media you're looking for in Millumin’s library.

You can filter by :

  • kind of media (images, movies, audios, timelines, shaders)
  • durations (less than 1 min, more than 1 minute, more than 5 minutes)
  • sizes (SD, HD, FullHD, UHD+)
  • ratio (landscape, portrait, square, panorama)
  • colors – Millumin analyzes images and movies to extract up to 3 main colors, which are used to filter results. You can also filter media containing transparency or being purely black & white.

After filtering, you can sort the results by:

  • name
  • importation date in your project
  • modification date in your project
  • number of use in your project

When you have found the media you were looking for, simply drag and drop it from the Quick-Find to your Dashboard or Timeline to add it, the window will close automatically once the media is grabbed.

You can also access the Quick-Find by double-clicking in a cell of the dashboard or directly in a timelie. In this case, dragging-and-dropping the media is not necessary, simply click on Insert into project and it will be added at the selected location.

Media Editor

The media editor allows to crop, trim, adjust, add effects for each media :

It can be opened with the Media Editor button from the Current Media tab of the properties-view :

The left view allows you to crop your media by :

  • Dragging the crop bounds in the view
  • Setting manually the bounds by double-clicking on its corner or border
  • Directly editing its position and size at the top of the view

You can maintain the ratio with the link button of the size control :

It also allows to add custom effects directly on the media on the right part (more info in the dedicated article : Effects ) :

Lastly, at the bottom you can edit the start/end point of your movie or sound :

  • The fields above define the start/end points
  • Clicking the [ or ] buttons position of the cursor as the start/end point
  • The central area is the whole media (with its waveform if there is audio)
  • The highlighted rectangle is the selection of your movie
  • The field below is the current time of the media
